Eliza Mackenzie Court – update March 2013
Despite some appalling weather I am pleased to report that Eliza Mackenzie Court remains pretty much on track.
The building is 95% watertight and the new roof is almost complete. The majority of the new windows have been installed and the insulation of the upper level is well under way. The final part here is the cladding that will cover the insulation.
More exciting is the fact that work has started inside, with the installation of the stud walls to create the new flats. The original building housed a mixture of studios and one bedroom flats which were all demolished to make space for 46 one bedroom flats plus communal facilities and warden accommodation.
The tower crane which has been necessary to lift windows and roof trusses etc. across the site will start to be taken down around the second week in April. Once down the generator will also be removed and this should make the site a little quieter.
The Association has asked the builders to prepare a show flat which prospective tenants will be able to view. It is hoped that this will be ready within 2/3 months time.
The plan is to take possession of the completed building towards the end of this year and we will shortly be writing to those people who have expressed an interest in being housed here to update them on progress.
